The Kaua’i Humane Society, along with more than 400 shelters in 45 states, is participating in the BISSELL Pet Foundation Empty the Shelters adoption event to help shelter pets find loving homes.

The BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsors reduced adoption fees of $50 or less per cat or dog during each nationwide event. Since it inception in 2016, the event has been behind more than 300,000 pet adoptions.

“It has been an incredibly challenging year for saving lives, as our nation’s shelters continue to
take in more pets than they are adopting out. Tens of thousands of shelter pets—of all breeds,
ages, and personalities—are desperately in need of homes,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of
BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope is more than an adoption event;
it’s a lifeline for shelter pets. Please visit your local participating shelter to adopt or foster a pet
this holiday season.”

All interested adopters are welcome to come to the shelter during adoption hours from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m Friday to Wednesday. All adoptable cats and dogs are $25.

Senior pets, 7-years old and older, and pets that have spent over 100 days in the shelter are free to adopt. Those interested in adopting one puppy and one kitty, both under six-months old, can do so for $25.

This is the third time that the Kaua’i Humane Society has participated in Empty the Shelters this year. The last event in October resulted in nearly 50 adoptions over the span of two weeks.

The Kaua’i Humane Society is at maximum capacity with over 79 adoptable dogs and puppies and 203 adoptable cats and kittens waiting for their forever homes this December.

“The holiday season is here, but at the Kaua’i Humane Society, overcrowding has reached
critical levels, with too many animals in need of safe, loving homes. Just like us, every pet
deserves a warm place to call home during this time of year,” said Kaua’i Humane Society’s Executive Director Padraic Gallagher. “Everyone can help make a difference during our Empty The Shelters adoption event and take advantage of this great opportunity. As a community, we can help ensure every pet has a chance to experience the love and comfort they deserve this holiday season.”

Empty the Shelters reduced-fee adoptions will be ongoing until Dec. 17. All interested adopters can find more details online at kauaihumane.org/adopting/.
