Update at 7:51 p.m. Dec. 6: The high surf advisory for north and west shorelines of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau has been extended until 6 p.m. Saturday.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu says a northwest swell is on the decline tonight; however, it is being reinforced by another northwest swell that will again bring surf heights above advisory levels Saturday for exposed north- and west-facing shores of the state’s smaller islands.
Surf of 12 to 16 feet along north-facing shores. and 8 to 12 feet along west-facing shores is expected.
Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming and other ocean activities dangerous.
