County reminds public about Lights on Rice Parade closures, other advisories
The highly anticipated Lights on Rice Parade returns this week, which means there will be some streets closed along the parade route and other considerations to keep in mind.
The parade starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Līhu‘e, kicking off at Vidinha Stadium.
It will travel down Ho‘olako and Rice Streets, concluding at the Historic County Building on ‘Eiwa Street.
Kaua‘i County is reminding the public about the following closures and other advisories ahead of the favorite holiday spectacular.
Traffic impact and road closures:
To ensure the safety of participants and spectators, Kaua‘i Police Department will close all streets along the parade route from 5:30 to 8 p.m. or until the parade is finished.
Motorists should plan ahead and expect traffic delays in the area.
Parking and transit updates:
- No parking will be allowed along the parade route — this includes ‘Eiwa and ‘Umi streets — beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
- Parking restrictions will be in effect at the Historic County Building and nearby state office parking lots from 3 p.m. to midnight to accommodate parade floats.
- The bus stop on ‘Eiwa Street will be temporarily relocated to Hardy Street, with all bus routes servicing the Hardy/‘Eiwa intersection from 5 to 10 p.m.
- The Route 70 Līhu‘e shuttle will not operate on Rice Street during the parade.
Christmas Craft Fair and additional restrictions:
The annual Christmas Craft Fair at the Kaua‘i Museum is happening the same day as the parade.
For the safety of pedestrians and vendors, and to accommodate the craft fair, a portion of the Līhu‘e Civic Center parking lot will be closed to allow public access from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. through the ‘Eiwa Street entrance.
Event organizers will provide updates should severe weather affect the parade.
