Service status of Kauaʻi refuse transfer stations
The County of Kauaʻi Public Information Office released the following update on the current status of Kauaʻi’s refuse transfer stations and the Kekaha Landfill as of 5:25 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22:
Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station (NEW UPDATE)
5-3751 Kuhio Hwy, Princeville
Open 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Green waste is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Current Status: Trash service will be available tomorrow, Nov. 23, at the Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station. All other services will also be available.
Kapa’a Refuse Transfer Station
5051 Kahi Road, Kapa‘a
Open 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Current Status: CLOSED for renovations until July 2025. However, green waste collection at Kapa‘a RTS will remain open. Additionally, residential bagged trash will be accepted Friday to Sunday at the Kapa‘a Base Yard located at 4900 Kahau Road, in Kapa‘a, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The public is advised that only bagged trash from residents will be accepted on those days.
Līhu‘e Refuse Transfer Station
3450 Ahukini Road, Līhu‘e
Open 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Current Status: Materials accepted at the Līhu‘e RTS have been temporarily modified. Līhu‘e will not be accepting construction and demolition debris or trailers containing trash. Pallets must be cut into quarters. Hanapēpē Refuse Transfer Station
4380 Lele Road, Hanapēpē
Open 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Current Status: All services are available.
Kekaha Landfill
6900 Kaumuali‘i Hwy, Kekaha
Open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Closed for lunch from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Current Status: No scrap metal or propane tanks accepted (large appliances only). All other services are available.

The schedule comes days after county representatives announced longer haul times for residential rubbish to the Kekaha Landfill would likely cause delays with home collections through early next year.
