“Our meal outreach throughout the season helps ensure that everyone can share in the blessings of the holidays,” said Maj. Troy Trimmer, divisional commander for The Salvation Army — Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Divison.

A series of festive public events, food pantry distributions and holiday meal deliveries to kūpuna and families in need are planned, including on the Garden Isle.

The Salvation Army Hanapēpē Corps will hold an onsite Thanksgiving lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 27 at its community center, located at 4465 Puolo Road. Dine-in and take-away meal options will be available, with an estimated 350 people to be served.

The Salvation Army Līhu‘e Corps will serve up about 600 Thanksgiving lunch plates via a drive-thru grab-n-go and walk-up grab-n-go for houseless friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall, located at 4191 Hardy St.

Further complementing outreach efforts are longstanding partnerships such as “Share a Holiday Feast” with Foodland and more, offering people several ways to give and receive.

Anyone can share a holiday feast with local families through Foodland by simply making a donation in-store at checkout, via online grocery delivery or at curbside pickup services.

The Salvation Army will then distribute these donations to families living on the islands where the donations were made, helping people purchase items for a memorable holiday meal.

“We are so grateful for the many wonderful supporters in the community who are giving of their time and resources to offer sustenance, hope and aloha to others who might otherwise go without,” said Trimmer. “Together, we can create brighter Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, and positively impact thousands of lives all year long.”
