Kauaʻi Police Department celebrates appointment of Deputy Chief Mark Ozaki
The Kaua‘i Police Department announced the official appointment of Assistant Chief Mark Ozaki as the department’s new Deputy Chief last week.
According to the Nov. 8 county press release, the position has been vacant for two years. Ozaki’s appointment was formally recognized during a swearing-in and badge pinning ceremony Nov. 1, at the Līhu‘e Civic Center’s Moikeha Rotunda.
Ozaki is a Kaua‘i native who has dedicated 25 years of service to the Kaua‘i community, the release states.
Throughout his career, he has worked across nearly every division within the Kaua‘i Police Department. Deputy Chief Ozaki has been instrumental in the development of key initiatives such as the Kaua‘i Police Activities League (K-PAL), the Peer Support Program, and the Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) program.
In addition to his extensive law enforcement experience, Deputy Chief Ozaki attended the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo and is also a 2020 graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. His commitment to the community extends beyond his professional duties—he has long been an active mentor and coach for youth on Kaua‘i.
The swearing-in ceremony, attended by local leaders, community and family members, marked a significant moment in Deputy Chief Ozaki’s career. During his remarks, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve in this new role and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the men and women of KPD and fostering strong community relationships.
“I am deeply grateful to God, my family, and all those who have supported me throughout my journey,” said Deputy Chief Ozaki in a statement.
“With their continued encouragement and the dedication of our team, we will continue to move this department forward and ensure we remain a positive force for the Kaua‘i community.”
The county ended the press release by stating the Kauaʻi Police Department is confident that Ozaki’s leadership will strengthen the department’s legacy of service and continue to positively impact the community for years to come.
