Celebrate Arbor Day on Kaua‘i this Saturday with a tree giveaway, with more festivities to come Nov. 9
Arbor Day activities throughout the state of Hawai‘i kick off this Saturday. On Kaua‘i, the holiday dedicated to honoring, planting and enjoying the benefits of trees will begin at Kukui Grove Center in Līhu‘e.
The Kaua‘i Landscape Industry Council on will host its annual native and non-native tree giveaway in the shopping center’s west parking lot, from 9 to 11 a.m. The free Nov. 2 event for all ages will also include educational booths operated by conservation and environmental nonprofit organizations.
The Nov. 9 event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is sponsored by the Kauaʻi Invasive Species Committee and the botanical garden, and is set to feature a native plant sale, educational talks and booths, food, craft vendors, a keiki corner and more.
Kaulunani, the urban and community forestry program of the Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife, supports various Arbor Day events annually. This year promises a range of opportunities for participants to connect with trees, from learning about those that provide food to native trees that thrive in Hawaiʻi and support unique ecosystems.
