Public can weigh in on planned emergency zone declaration near Waikoko hairpin turn
The public will have a chance to weigh in on the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation’s intent to declare a traffic emergency zone on a portion of Kūhiō Highway (Highway 560) near the Waikoko Hairpin Turn on Kaua‘i’s North Shore.
The state Transportation Department is hosting an online public meeting at 1 p.m. today via Microsoft Teams. Anyone who wants to comment on the designation can do so during the meeting.
The state plans to declare a traffic emergency zone at milepost 4.7 to conduct emergency slope stabilization work.
The declaration will allows the Transportation Department to expedite procurement and permitting to make improvements and protect access to the state highway.
