First responders rescued four Hanamā‘ulu residents — two adults and two children — in waters off Nukoli‘i Beach in Wailua on Sunday, Sept. 8, according to officials with the County of Kauaʻi.

According to a recent county press release, first responders received a report of four people needing rescue in waters off Nukoli‘i Beach shortly after 6:20 p.m.

It states Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel with the Līhu‘e and Kapa‘a fire stations, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and the Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the incident.

Rescuers arrived on scene about ten minutes later and discovered two adults and two children drifting in waters and holding hands approximately 100 yards offshore in waters off the beach.

Using rescue surfboards, fire personnel entered the water and rescued all four swimmers. Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 received an all-clear sign from rescuers in the water before bringing the four swimmers to shore.

There were no injuries reported, and after being assessed by personnel from American Medical Response, the four individuals were released.

The scene was cleared shortly before 7 p.m., the statement added.
