Hiker found safe after reported missing on Kaua‘i trail

A hiker who was reported missing was safely located on Friday afternoon in Kōke‘e.

Rachel Griffith, 30, from Oregon, was reported missing earlier Friday. Police were able to locate her unoccupied vehicle at the Awaʻawapuhi trailhead in Kōke‘e.

A coordinated search effort involving multiple agencies— including the Kaua‘i Police Department, the Kaua‘i Fire Department, Kaua‘i Search and Rescue, and the Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement—was conducted.

Griffith was found on Kōke‘e Road at approximately noon with no injuries reported. She had become disoriented while hiking the Awaʻawapuhi Trail the previous night.

Kaua‘i Police Assistant Chief Kalani Ke said he was grateful Griffith was found safe and unharmed and thanked the community and partnering agencies for their help in finding the Oregon woman.
