Injured hiker rescued in Kōke‘e on Sunday

First responders rescued an injured 43-year-old hiker in Kōke‘e on the West Side of Kaua‘i on Sunday.

Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel with the Waimea Fire Station and Rescue 3 aboard the Air 1 helicopter responded to the May 19 incident.

According to a preliminary report, KFD received a report of the injured hiker – a woman visiting from West Virginia – on the Kukui Trail shortly before 12:20 p.m.

When Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 arrived on the Kukui Trail, they found the hiker with an apparent ankle injury from a fall.

She was short-hauled and transported to a landing zone near the trailhead of the Kukui Trail to awaiting medics with American Medical Response.

AMR personnel continued treatment of the hiker before transporting her to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital.

The scene was cleared shortly at approximately 1:35 p.m.
