Niumalu Bridge on Kaua‘i closed till further notice

Niumalu Bridge on Niumalu Road near Hulemalu Road is closed until further notice.

Following the flooding event in April, Kaua‘i County consultants inspected county bridges across the island and determined that the Niumalu Bridge was unsafe for motorists, prompting an immediate shutdown. County Engineer Troy Tanigawa confirmed the structure has permanent damage, which will require a full replacement.

“In the meantime, we are looking into possibly installing a temporary structure over the existing bridge,” Tanigawa said. “However, if feasible, that could still take several months to complete.”
