Online registration for keiki, junior lifeguard programs begins May 1

Online registration for the 2024 keiki and junior lifeguard programs begins at 7:45 a.m. May 1.

The free programs offer ocean safety awareness and lifesaving skills instruction. Enrollment is limited.

The Keiki Lifeguard Program is available to children ages 8 to 11 years old who can swim and run 50 yards nonstop. The Junior Lifeguard Program is for youth ages 12 to 17 years old who can swim and run 100 yards nonstop.

Proof of birth certificate is required for each participant. Participants will need to bring their lunch, sunscreen and a towel to daily training.

The programs run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates:

  • June 10-14 at Salt Pond Beach.
  • June 17-21 at Hanalei Pavilion.
  • June 24-28 at Kalapakī Beach.
  • July 8-12 at Salt Pond Beach.
  • July 15-19 Hanalei Pavilion.
  • July 22-26, at Kalapakī Beach.

The state championship will be conducted on Hawai‘i Island. A date has not been set.
