1 Hotel Hanalei Bay to host culinary series featuring Top Chef winner Melissa King

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is hosting three culinary events this week featuring San Francisco-based Chef Melissa King, who won Bravo TV’s Top Chef All-Stars: Los Angeles in 2020.

Chef Melissa King, who was the winner of Bravo’s Top Chef All-Stars: Los Angeles Season 17, will be a featured guest at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay culinary events from April 12-14. (Courtesy of 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay)

From April 12-14, 2024, Chef Melissa will participate in a wine pairing, cooking class and curated dinner as part of the resort’s Chefs by Nature series. The admission cost for each event ranges from $225 to $250.

Lori Michimoto, a communications specialist with the 1 Hotel, shared the following information about the series:

Chefs by Nature is a culinary series at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay focused on sustainable cuisine with a local community giveback component. The program invites celebrity chefs to help highlight the vital connections in the food supply chain and the importance of prioritizing sustainable methods.

About Chefs by Nature Series at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay:

  • Sustainable culinary series at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay that benefits the Kauaʻi Community College’s Culinary Arts Program.  Designed to be a showcase for the island culinary talent by creating opportunities for the students to work in the kitchen alongside celebrated chefs as well as builds a student scholarship to promote the pipeline of talent on Kauai.
  • Celebrates Kauai’s farmers, ranchers and growers. The program features cooking classes, sustainable dinners, and talk story events.
  • Collaboration between guest chefs and the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay culinary team to highlight unique culinary styles with Kauai’s seasonal ingredients.

Event Schedule:

  • Paired by Nature Talk Story style event pairing wine with extensive charcuterie highlighting how chefs and sommeliers highlight flavor pairings. Chef Melissa and Hawaiʻi Master Sommelier Chris Ramelb will pair up for the evening. Friday, April 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m. $250
  • Cooking demo showcasing Chef Melissa’s techniques and insight into favorite dishes. Saturday, April 13, 3-5 p.m. $250
  • Charity dinner with wine pairings benefiting the Kauaʻi Community College’s Culinary Arts Program. Sunday, April 14, 5 p.m. $225
