Firefighters extinguish brush fire in Kekaha

Kaua‘i firefighters extinguished a brush fire Monday in Kekaha. No injuries were reported.

Shortly after 6 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire near the vicinity of Kōke‘e Road. Firefighters with the Hanapēpē and Waimea fire stations, the Kaua‘i Police Department and the on-duty battalion chief responded.

Arriving on scene, Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel discovered a 50-by-50 foot area of brush ablaze. Firefighters controlled the fire and extinguished it shortly after.

Kōke‘e Road, from Kekaha Road to Waimea Canyon Drive, was closed for about an hour while first responders tackled the fire.

The scene was cleared by about 7:35 p.m.

While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, Kaua‘i police urge the public to remain vigilant. If you witness a fire or if it is an emergency, call 9-1-1.
