Florida woman rescued from Hanakāpī‘ai Trail after 20-foot fall

A 63-year-old Florida woman was rescued Feb. 10 from Hanakāpī‘ai Trail in Hā‘ena after sustaining head injuries from falling.

Kaua‘i firefighters were dispatched just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday to the report of the woman who was injured after falling 20 feet while hiking on the trail. Personnel with the Hanalei Fire Station, Rescue 3, Air 1 and American Medical Response responded.

First responders found the hiker at about 2:50 p.m. Upon their arrival, the hiker was loaded onto Air 1 and transported to the Princeville Airport to await American Medical Response and Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel.

American Medical Response personnel continued treatment of the hiker before transporting her to Wilcox Medical Center in Līhuʻe.
