Update: High surf advisory canceled for north- and west-facing shores of Kaua‘i, Ni‘ihau

Update at 3:32 p.m. Dec. 9: The high surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau has been canceled.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu says surf along those shorelines has fallen below advisory levels.

Original post from 10:09 p.m. Dec. 8: A high surf advisory was issued for west- and north-facing shores of Ni‘ihau and Kaua‘i till 4 a.m. Sunday.

Surf along north-facing shores will rise to 10 to 15 feet by Saturday morning. Surf along west-facing shores of Ni‘ihau and Kaua‘i rising to 8 to 12 feet by Saturday morning.

Impacts include strong-breaking waves and currents, which could make swimming dangerous.
