The County of Kaua‘i Agency on Elderly Affairs announces its EnhanceFitness program for older adults aged 60 and older is now available at the Hanalei Neighborhood Center.

Classes are free and held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m.

EnhanceFitness is a group exercise program that is designed for older adults at all levels of fitness. It focuses on balance, strength, endurance and flexibility. Older adults who could benefit from exercise, improved range of motion, social connection, arthritis management or fall prevention, and who live on the North Shore are encouraged to sign up for the program.

Hanalei classes are taught by Debbie Lankford, a certified fitness instructor.

“I began my journey of becoming an EnhanceFitness Instructor for County of Kaua‘i Elderly Affairs in 2007,” said Lankford. “EnhanceFitness is a fantastic program for our kupuna as it inspires the participants to be active, to move their body, help their memory and coordination, and enjoy life by being physically active. They enjoy being with their friends and meeting new friends, too. We help them to improve or maintain their cardiorespiratory fitness, strength training, balance, and flexibility.”

EnhanceFitness classes are also held at Līhu‘e Neighborhood Center and Kapa‘a United Church of Christ.
