The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Special Marine Warning for Kaua‘i’s leeward and northwest waters until 2:30 p.m.

At 1:30 p.m., a strong thunderstorm was located near Lehua Rock near Ni‘ihau, or 18 nautical miles west of Barking Sands, moving northeast at 5 knots.

Wind gusts will reach 34 knots or greater.

Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.

Prepare for gusty winds, steep and fast-building seas, and blinding downpours. Stay low or go below, and make sure all on board are wearing life jackets.
