Kauaʻi police have reopened Kaumualiʻi Highway at mile marker 27 in Kekaha as of 3 p.m. on Monday.

Investigators previously closed the highway to conduct an on-scene investigation following Sunday’s arrest of fugitive murder suspect, Chris Santos.

Santos had been on the run since Sept. 8, after investigators connected him to a fatal shooting on Sept. 7 on Kahili Mountain Road. Kaua‘i police were assisted in their search by the United States Marshals Service and the FBI.

Chief of Kaua‘i Police Todd Raybuck on Monday issued a statement reporting Santos has been charged with attempted murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree, and other felony charges.
