Lane closures for sections of Kawaihau Road July 24-29
Portions of Kawaihau Road in Kapaʻa will be closed from July 24 to 29, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for roadway excavation and construction, according to the Kauaʻi County Department of Public Works.
This work, which will be conducted by Grace Pacific, will occur on Kawaihau Road in between the newly constructed roundabout and Nunu Road. During this time, lanes will be shifted to help accommodate for the construction.
Kawaihau Road will experience temporary road narrowing.
Motorists are advised to expect brief, occasional delays, exercise caution and drive slowly when commuting through the work area.
The project consists of the construction of a peanut-shaped roundabout, sidewalks, paved shoulders and other roadway improvements for the safety and operations of the 5-way intersection of Kawaihau, Hau’a’ala and Mailihuna roads.
People use multiple modes to travel efficiently and safely through this area that contains St. Catherine’s School and Church, Kapaʻa High School, Kapaʻa Elementary School, Mahelona Hospital and Gore Park.
The project is expected to be completed in November 2023. Dates and times are subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
