Update: Kekaha Beach Reopens to swimming

Updated at 3 p.. on July 18: Kauaʻi County Ocean Safety Bureau officials have reopened Kekaha Beach to swimming on Tuesday afternoon after determining the water was safe for swimming.

Lifeguards closed Kekaha Beach to swimming on Monday afternoon after reporting that a possible 8-foot tiger shark was sighted off shore.

Warning signs have since been removed.

Original post: Ocean Safety Bureau officials are advising no swimming at Kekaha Beach until further notice due to a shark sighting this afternoon.

According to reports, the animal seen was possibly an 8-foot tiger shark. No injuries were reported.

As a safety precaution, Ocean Safety officials have posted warning signs and will continue to monitor the area. Lifeguards will reassess the area on Tuesday.
