Garden Island Boogie Board Classic makes 5 years with help of Hawai’i Tourism Authority

The nonprofit Kaikeha is once again planning its annual Garden Island Boogie Board
Classic on Kaua‘i.

This event brings together ‘ohana from around the state to share in friendly competition. Last year the event attracted 279 competitors. Some of the towns represented by last year’s competitors include: Pepe‘ekeo, Kekaha, Kōloa, ‘Ewa Beach, Kāne‘ohe, Wahiawā, Wailuku, Kailua Kona, Waimea (Kaumakani Camp), Lāwa‘i, Līhu‘e, Honolulu, Hanalei, Kapa‘a, ‘Ele‘ele, Hilo, Kalāheo, Waimānalo, Kaunakakai, Ho‘olehua, Lāhainā, Kailua, Waipahu, Kapolei, Kamuela, Pāhoa, Kula, Kualapu‘u, Pa‘auilo and Captain Cook.

There are still open spots available in the following divisions: Menehune (10 -13), Juniors (14-17), Girls (17 and Under), Open Women (18+), Masters (35+), Open Pro and Drop Knee Pro.

Amateur Divisions are $25 and Pro Divisions are $200. Competitors who wish to register for this event should visit www.kaikeha.org. The prize purse for this event is $10,000. The Drop Knee Pro Division winner will earn 1,000 points towards the International Bodyboarding Corporation World Tour rankings.

The Final Event for the Drop Knee tour is the Sintra Pro in Portugal.

Kaikeha graciously leans on its community to help make this event happen. The Garden Island Boogie Board Classic is one of three events that was selected for funding in partnership with the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority. Support is provided by the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority through the Community Enrichment Program.
