Zonta Club of Kaua‘i awards $15,500 in scholarships
The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Scholarship Foundation has awarded $15,500 in scholarships to five
outstanding young women, all recent graduates of Kauai high schools.
The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i’s mission is to “Build a Better World for Women and Girls.” One way members do this is by fundraising throughout the year, working community events and writing grants to provide these scholarships.
The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Scholarship Program began in 1986 with its initial award of $250 to
three graduating high school seniors attending Kaua‘i’s high schools. Since then, the amount of scholarship awards have increased and the Foundation has awarded $238,000 in scholarships to 224 women.
The 2023 scholarships were awarded to Emi Sakamoto, who will be attending the University of Tulsa intent on obtaining a nursing degree.
Kaytin Taba is bound for Hope College, Michigan, with the goal to become a physicians assistant.
Kadee Parubrub was accepted to the University of Arizona where she will aspire to earn a nursing degree.
Elise Yukimura, headed to the University of San Francisco, with the intent to become a botanist.
Skylar Stewart also wants a medical career. She is off to Colorado State, as the first step to eventually go to medical school to be a radiologist.
The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Scholarship Foundation would like to thank the County of Kaua‘i and
Macy’s for their very generous grants to support this effort.
They are also very grateful for the donations from businesses and private individuals including Blue Dolphin Charters, Rice Street Business Association, Salty Wahine, Patrice Pendarvis, Lisa and Jeri Arin, Marge Akana, John and Fay Hanaoka, Curtis and Faith Shiramizu, and Malia Kai Boutique owners Maryann Ornellas and Jamie Kai. Members of the Zonta Club of Kauai also raised money through community fundraisers, various holiday auctions and hosted the Red Carpet Fundraiser with the Kauai Community Players.
