Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Wainiha on Tuesday.
No injuries were reported. However, four people have been displaced.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Powerhouse Road in Wainiha shortly before 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.
Personnel from the Hanalei, Kapa‘a, and Kaiakea fire stations; Rescue 3; Tender 1; the Fire Prevention Bureau; American Medical Response; Kaua‘i Police Department; personnel with Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, fire personnel arrived at a one-story residential building shortly before 7:10 a.m. and found that the structure was fully engulfed in flames. Since the water supply was limited, firefighters had to draw water from a nearby stream and adopt a defensive position to safeguard nearby structures. The firefighters kept shuttling water to put out the fire until it was completely extinguished.
Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 2:05 p.m.
Damages to structure and contents are estimated at $160,000.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting one individual who requested support.
