Kawaihau Road lane closures set for June 5-10
Portions of Kawaihau Road in Kapaʻa will be closed for roadway excavation and construction on June 5 to 10 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., according to Kauaʻi County Department of Public Works and Grace Pacific, an asphalt paving contractor.
During this time, periodic one-lane closures will occur and lanes will be shifted to help accommodate for the construction. Kawaihau Road will experience temporary road narrowing.
Motorists are advised to expect brief and occasional delays. Please exercise caution and drive slowly when commuting through the work area.
The project aims to construct a peanut-shaped roundabout, sidewalks, paved shoulders and various other roadway improvements to help improve the safety and operations of the 5-way intersection of Kawaihau, Hauʻaʻala and Mailihuna roads and for people using multiple modes to travel efficiently and safely.
This area contains St. Catherine’s School/Church, Kapaʻa High School, Kapaʻa Elementary School, Mahelona Hospital and Gore Park.
The project is estimated to be done in November 2023.
Dates and times are subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
