Youth sports equipment burns up in shed fire belonging to Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League
Youth football equipment belonging to the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League was destroyed after a fire destroyed its storage shed early Wednesday.
The Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to the blaze, located at the Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex in Kapa‘a, at 3:30 a.m after receiving a report there was a fire at the park.
When Kaiākea firefighters arrived on scene, they found a 10-foot by 30- foot shed fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters with Engine 8 accessed the park from Cane Haul Road (Kapa‘a Bypass), while Truck 8 gained access from Kahau Road. A water supply was established, and firefighters formed attack lines to quickly knock down and fully extinguish the fire.
No injuries were reported.
The shed belonged to the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League and was used to store youth football equipment. The structure is considered a total loss, and fire inspectors with the Fire Prevention Bureau estimate the damage to the storage shed and its contents to be roughly $200,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Acting Captain of the Investigative Services Bureau Kennison Nagahisa said the department was deeply saddened by the destruction and loss of youth sports equipment by the blaze.
