County blesses newly-renovated playcourt at Kōloa Park
The Department of Parks and Recreation held a blessing ceremony on Tuesday, commemorating the completion of the playcourt renovations at Anne Knudsen Park, also known as Kōloa Park, in Kōloa.
This project, located on Maluhia Road, included significant renovations and rebuilding of the tennis court, pickleball courts and basketball court at the park.
Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami thanked the Parks and Rec team as well as the Southside community for support the renovations.
“As soon as the courts reopened, so many residents were already filling up the courts. It’s nice to see our Kōloa Park being enjoyed again by all,” the mayor said.
The scope of work for this project included the complete demolition of the existing basketball and tennis courts and the complete rebuild of the courts with new asphalt and surfacing. The rebuild resulted in a basketball court, a tennis court with two blended pickleball courts and four dedicated pickleball courts.
Tuesday’s blessing was officiated by Kahu Sean Chun, and attended by approximately 100 individuals. The $958,000 project was funded through the County’s Capital Improvement Program and was completed by Jas. W. Glover Ltd. General Contractors.
Construction began in April 2022, and the playcourts were substantially completed and opened to the public on May 1.
