Kaua‘i cops investigate Līhu‘e wastewater treatment plant break-in

The Kaua‘i Police Department is investigating a break-in at the Līhu‘e wastewater treatment plant that was reported by Public Works personnel on Tuesday.

According to a preliminary report, at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, wastewater personnel discovered the entrance to the plant destroyed, with the front gate apparently rammed through. Thieves stole a County Ford F-250 truck, miscellaneous tools and personal items.

Hours later, at approximately 8:45 a.m., the stolen truck was located at a business parking lot in the Līhu‘e area. The County of Kaua‘i truck sustained significant damage to the front end.

No arrests have yet been made as police continue to investigate the incident.

The estimated value of the stolen equipment and damages to the plant is over $35,000.
