Special marine warning issued for waters surrounding Kaua‘i

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a special marine warning for waters around Kaua‘i till 8:30 p.m.

At 6:35 p.m., strong thunderstorms continue to develop and track southwest around 20 knots covering a large area extending northeast from Port Allen to around 10 nm north of O‘ahu. Areas impacted in leeward waters of Kaua‘i windward waters of O‘ahu and Kaua‘i as well as the Kaua‘i Channel.

Waterspouts and wind gusts to 40 knots are anticipated. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves.

Locations impacted include FAD Buoy CK, Makahuena Point, FAD Buoy II, FAD Buoy KK, FAD Buoy
PP, FAD Buoy AA, FAD Buoy X and FAD Buoy J.
