Gov. Green lowers flags to honor Nashville elementary school shooting victims

At the direction of the President of the United States, Hawaiʻi Gov. Josh Green has ordered the U.S. flag and the Hawaiʻi state flag to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol, all state offices and agencies, and at the Hawaiʻi National Guard to honor the shooting victims at a Nashville elementary school.

The order is from today through sunset on March 31, 2023.

“We lower our flags as a sign of respect and love for the innocent victims of the school shooting in Nashville, Tenn.,” Green said in a statement. “In doing so, we unite with President Biden and others across our nation in mourning the deeply felt losses.”

Six people, including three children all aged 9, were killed at a shooting that occurred on March 27 at the Covenant School, a private elementary school on the grounds of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville’s Green Hills neighborhood, according to NPR.

Nashville Police Chief John Drake identified the shooter as Audrey Hale, and said in a news conference she brought seven firearms, three of which were used in the attack. He also said she was in treatment for an emotional disorder.
