A 76-year-old man visiting Kaua‘i from Kansas died Friday evening after tripping in front of a truck, the Kaua‘i Police Department said Saturday evening. His identity has not been released.

At about 6 p.m. Friday, police were dispatched to a report of a man who fell and collided with a vehicle in the Hokulei Village parking lot in Līhu‘e. According to a preliminary report, the visitor was crossing the parking lot when he tripped and fell into a grey Toyota Tacoma operated by a 27-year-old man from Hanapēpē.

First responders with American Medical Response and the Kaua‘i Fire Department treated the Kansas man at the scene before transporting him to Wilcox Medical Center in Līhu‘e, where he later died.

The crash is under investigation by the Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. Speed and impairment do not appear to be contributing factors in this crash.
