On Tuesday, the Kauaʻi County Department of Finance Division of Motor Vehicles held a groundbreaking of the Kapa‘a Satellite DMV at the Kapa‘a Armory.

“Providing the same over-the-counter transactions as our Līhu‘e DMV, this satellite location will help to reduce commute time and make DMV services more convenient for our Eastside and North Shore customers,” Kauaʻi Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami said.

The $177,000 project, contracted by Shioi Construction, includes renovating the armory with three DMV service windows.

The satellite DMV is estimated to open early next year.

But it will not take appointments for road and written tests for licenses, periodic motor vehicle inspections and financial responsibilities services. Those only can be done at the Līhu‘e DMV.
