UPDATE: High bacteria count notification canceled for Lumahaʻi Beach on Kauaʻi

Updated on March 8, 2023: The Hawai‘i State Department of Health has canceled the high bacteria count notification for Lumahaʻi Beach on Kaua‘i. Water sample retesting results show that enterococci levels no longer exceed the threshold level.

Levels of 222 per 100 mL were detected during routine beach monitoring, but the department is uncertain about the representativeness of the first sample.

This beach historically has met the acceptable beach threshold level, and there is no known source of fecal contamination. Therefore, the Department of Health has collected another sample and is retesting the site.

An update will be provided when the results of retesting are completed.
