Kauaʻi police arrest two people for second-degree murder of 52-year-old Kapaʻa man

A man from Nebraska and a woman from Kapa’a have been arrested for second-degree murder in connection to the death of 52-year-old John Diaz Jr. of Kapa’a.

At about 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 24, Kauaʻi police officers responded to a report of an unconscious man with multiple injuries observed in the vicinity of north Kealia Beach. The victim was treated on scene before being transported by ambulance with life-threatening injuries to Wilcox Memorial Center, where he later died.

Karl Tondevold, 48, of Nebraska and Christy Selvage, 43, of Kapaʻa were arrested for second-degree murder.

Selvage was released pending investigation, and Tondevold is currently being held at the Kauaʻi Police Department cellblock.
