Updated at 8:38 a.m. on Feb. 16: The National Weather Service has extended a high surf advisory for the east-facing shores of Kaua’i until 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Medium-period northeast swell generated by the Kona Low storm passing north of the islands is larger than expected, and will produce high surf on O‘ahu and Kaua‘i County.

Updated at 4:45 p.m. on Feb. 15: The National Weather Service has extended a high surf advisory for the east-facing shores of Kaua’i until 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Large and rough trade wind swell will produce large breaking waves of 7 to 10 feet.

Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous.

Head all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.
