Updated at 8:38 a.m. on Feb. 16: The National Weather Service has extended a high surf advisory for the east-facing shores of Kaua’i until 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Medium-period northeast swell generated by the Kona Low storm passing north of the islands is larger than expected, and will produce high surf on O‘ahu and Kaua‘i County.

Large and rough trade wind swell will produce large breaking waves of 7 to 10 feet.
Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous.
Head all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.
