Kapa‘a man hospitalized following early Sunday morning crash
A Kapa‘a man has been hospitalized after crashing his Toyota pickup truck in Līhu‘e at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday.
The 21-year-old man – who Kaua‘i police have not identified publicly – was traveling eastbound on Kaumuali‘i Highway in the vicinity of the Kaua‘i Department of Water when the operator lost control, struck a curb and rolled over, according to a preliminary investigation.
First responders with the Kaua‘i Fire Department and American Medical Response treated the Kapa‘a man on the scene before admitting him to Wilcox Medical Center in stable condition.
Speed and impairment appear to be factors in this crash, Kaua‘i police said.
Toxicology reports are pending to determine if the operator was under the influence at the time of the incident. However, the investigation remains ongoing.
Kaumuali‘i Highway was closed for one-and-a-half hours while Kaua‘i police officers with the Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
