Original post: The National Weather Service downgraded the high surf warning for Kauaʻi and Niʻihau to a high surf advisory, which will be in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24.
The forecast is for large breaking waves of 18 to 24 feet for north-facing shores, subsiding to 10 to 15 feet.
For west-facing shores, the forecast is for large breaking waves of 14 to 18 feet, subsiding to 8 to 12 feet.
This is due to a northwest swell at 320 degrees that will gradually subside tonight and fall below advisory thresholds on Tuesday evening.
