High surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Kauaʻi, Niʻihau

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for north- and west-facing shores of Kauaʻi and Niʻihau.

For north-facing shores, surf is forecast to be 18 to 22 feet this morning, dropping to 15 to 20 feet in the afternoon.

For west-facing shores, surf is expected to be 12 to 16 feet this morning, and 10 to 14 feet in the afternoon.

A large, long-period northwest swell (310 degrees) will continue to produce elevated surf along most north- and west-facing shores of the smaller islands.

Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous in these high swell areas.
