Wailua house fire displaces two on Kaua‘i

Two residents have been displaced by a structure fire on Olohena Road in the Wailua Homesteads on Friday.  

The couple was not home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, according to county officials.  

Firefighters were dispatched to the two-story home at approximately 10:30 a.m. 

Personnel from the Līhu‘e, Kaiākea and Kapa‘a fire stations responded along with KFD’s Rescue 3, the on-duty battalion chief and inspectors from the Fire Prevention Bureau. Officers from the Kaua‘i Police Department, AMR medics and a crew from the Department of Public Works also responded to the scene.

Firefighters continued their efforts until shortly after 6 p.m. The home is considered a total loss and damages to the structure and contents are estimated to be approximately $880,000.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced couple.   

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
