UPDATE: Surf advisory canceled for Kauaʻi and Niʻihau

UPDATE, 9:32 a.m. on Monday: The National Weather Service has canceled the high surf advisory for the Hawaiian Islands.

Original Post: The National Weather Service has extended its surf advisory until noon Monday for north- and west-facing shores of Kauaʻi, Niʻihau, Oʻahu and Molokaʻi. The advisory also is for north-facing shores of Maui.

Surf along north-facing shores is forecast for 10 to 15 feet and along west-facing shores at 8 to 12 feet.

The current declining northwest swell (310-320 degrees) will maintain advisory-level surf for north- and west-facing shores through mid to late morning. Surf is expected to drop below advisory levels by early afternoon today.

Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous. Head all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.
