High Surf Warning downgraded to Advisory

The National Weather Service has downgraded its High Surf Warning for the shores of Ni‘ihau, Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Moloka‘i, and Maui to a High Surf Advisory. The advisory is in effect till 6 p.m. Thursday.

Surf of 15 to 20 feet will lower to 10 to 15 feet on Dec. 22 along north-facing shores. Surf of 12 to 16 feet will lower to 8 to 12 feet along west-facing shores of Ni‘ihau and Kaua‘i Thursday. Surf of 10 to 15 feet will lower to 8 to 12 feet along west-facing shores of O‘ahu and Moloka‘i.

Impacts are expected to be moderate with strong breaking waves and currents making swimming dangerous. Follow all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.
