Kaua‘i Climate Action Coalition hosting COP27 review Dec. 19
Two Hawai‘i-based environmental groups are gearing up to discuss the results of the 27th United Nations climate change conference, or COP27, held in Egypt this past November.
The Kaua‘i Climate Action Coalition and the Hawai’i Climate & Environmental Coalition will ask “What Happened at COP27?” on Monday, Dec. 19, during a virtual meeting featuring Maui Councilmember Kelly King and Bob King, president of renewable energy company Pacific Biodiesel.
Kelly King, who represented Kaua‘i and Maui on the Hawai‘i State Board of Education in the 1990s, now chairs the Maui County Council’s Climate Action, Resilience and Environment Committee and is vice president of the Hawai‘i State Association of Counties.
In 2020, Kelly King attended COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland, as an official delegate of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability.
The Kaua‘i Climate Action Coalition encourages its local community to attend.
““It’s about thinking globally, understanding what is happening worldwide, and what needs to happen to address the climate crisis, and then being able to take action locally, which the Kings are great examples of as local activist, policy makers and entrepreneurs,” organizer Laurel Brier said.
The online meeting will run on Zoom from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 19. A recording will be sent to registered attendees.
