The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the leeward areas of Kaua‘i County until 6 p.m.

A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather conditions are either occurring or will occur shortly. The combination of dry fuels, strong and gusty trade winds, and low relative humidity levels could produce extreme fire behavior. A Red Flag Warning does not predict new fire starts.

According to NWS, any fire that develops will likely spread rapidly in these conditions. The public should not participate in any outdoor burning.

The warning may be extended, dropped, or modified as conditions develop. For weather updates, call the National Weather Service automated weather line at 808-245-6001, or visit the NWS website, www.weather.gov/hfo.
