Small brush fire in Kokeʻe quickly extinguished
Kauaʻi firefighters put out a small brush fire Friday night that broke out in Koke‘e.
The fire was reported near mile marker 4 along Waimea Canyon Drive. Firefighters from the Waimea and Hanapēpē stations were dispatched shortly after 7:30 p.m. and found approximately 50 feet by 50 feet of brush and trees on fire and slowly spreading.

Waimea firefighters from Truck 7 worked the south end of the fire and extinguished the brush and trees that were burning. Hanapēpē fire personnel also assisted in efforts to fully extinguish the blaze.
The scene was cleared around 11 p.m. with no injuries reported.
Personnel from the State Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife were called to monitor the area for hot spots through the night.
During the response, Waimea Canyon Drive, between Panini Place and Koke‘e Road, was closed until approximately 10:15 p.m.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
