Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Mailihuna Road, Hau‘a‘ala Road and Kawaihau Road in Kapa‘a continues and additional lane closures are planned next week to accommodate the work.

Portions of the roadways will be closed and detours put in place from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 7-10. No work is scheduled for Nov. 8 or 11 in observance of Election Day and Veterans Day, respectively.

The intersection will experience temporary traffic shifts. Temporary traffic control plans also will be in place while construction of the new roundabout progresses. No road work is scheduled during the peak traffic times for school drop off and pick up.

Over the next several weeks, traffic control configurations around the intersection will change. Various sections of the roundabout will require closing and detour routes will vary through each phase of construction. The public is urged to exercise caution and drive slowly through the marked detour areas, particularly through Kolohala Road.

The roundabout portion of the operation and safety improvement project is expected to be finished this month. The project as a whole should be completed in July 2023. Dates and times are subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
