Man in critical condition following Kapa‘a traffic crash
A Kapa‘a man is in critical condition at a Kaua‘i hospital following a weekend traffic crash in Kapa‘a.
Kaua‘i police report that the 74-year-old man was operating a 2010 Harley Davidson and traveling eastbound the afternoon of Oct. 22 on Kawaihau Road when a 2008 Toyota sedan being operated by a 17-yeard-old Kapa‘a female attempted to make a left turn into Menehune Food Mart and struck the motorcycle. Kaua‘i Police Department personnel were dispatched to the scene at about 3:30 p.m.
Kawaihau Road near Menehune Food Mart was closed in both directions for more than two hours while officers with the Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology reports are pending to determine if either operator was under the influence of an intoxicant at the time of the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
The Kapa‘a man who was operating the motorcycle is hospitalized at Wilcox Medical Center in Līhuʻe.
