Firefighters respond to structure fire in Waipouli
No injuries were reported following a fire Friday at a Waipouli condominium complex.
Firefighters were dispatched at 2:45 p.m. Friday to a report of a structure fire on Kūhiō Highway. Upon arrival, fire personnel discovered black smoke coming from a unit at the Kaua‘i Kailani condos. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire using a fire extinguisher.
After the fire was extinguished, personnel with the Kaua‘i Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau conducted an investigation. The scene was cleared shortly after 4 p.m.
Damages to structure and contents are estimated at $20,000.
Personnel from the Līhu‘e, Kaiākea and Kapa‘a fire stations, Rescue 3, the Fire Prevention Bureau and the on-duty battalion chief responded to the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
