A Kaua‘i resident is dead following a traffic crash in Princeville.

The identity of the 68-year-old pedestrian from Hanalei has not yet been release, but the Kaua‘i Police Department says he is from Hanalei. He died from his injuries he sustained from being struck Monday night on Kūhiō Highway.

According to a preliminary investigation, the man was walking in the northbound lane of the highway, near the Kapaka Street intersection, when he was hit by a Honda sedan being driven by a 49-year-old Kīlauea woman. The crash happened at about 7:40 p.m.

Speeding and impairment are not suspected factors in the crash; however, the investigation remains ongoing.

Kūhiō Highway was closed in both directions for roughly 3 1/2 hours.

This is Kauai’s seventh traffic fatality this year.
