Temporary Repairs to Yasutake Bridge Underway
Repairs to a bridge north of Wailua Homesteads Park are underway.
Yasutake Bridge, located on Kamalu Road, remains closed while crews with Goodfellow Brothers install a 60-foot Acrow bridge, signs and speed calming devices, along with additional paving work. The bridge is expected to reopen in the next two months.
During the continued bridge closure, motorists can use a detour via Olohena, Puʻuʻōpae and ‘Ōpaeka‘a roads.
The county closed the bridge June 10 because of safety concerns with critical scour conditions that affected the foundation. On June 14, an engineering consultant conducted dive inspections of Yasutake Bridge and discovered further scouring. Following the assessment, the consultant recommended the bridge remain closed until the temporary bridge is in place.
